The nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun (approx. 200km). The nearest major railway stations are Dehradun and Haridwar. From there, you must hire a taxi or take a bus to Barkot, then proceed to Janki Chatti. From Janki Chatti, Yamunotri is accessible only by a 6km trek on foot, pony, or palanquin.

Travel Tips

1Start your trek from Janki Chatti as early as 5:00 AM to avoid the midday sun and the massive traffic jams of ponies.

2Walk on the hillside of the path, not the cliff side. Ponies carry heavy loads and can easily knock you off balance.
