FAQs
Is the Rajgundha trek difficult?
Not at all. The trek from Bir Billing is about 14 km but it's mostly flat or a gradual descent. It's perfect for beginners. The hike from Badagran is much shorter (2-3 km) but slightly steeper.
Can I take my car to Rajgundha?
You cannot drive from Bir Billing (it's a walking trail). You can drive from the Barot/Badagran side, but the last stretch is a hardcore dirt track. A 4x4 or a high-ground-clearance vehicle is highly recommended. Regular hatchbacks will struggle.
Is there electricity and network?
Electricity is available but power cuts are frequent. Network is nearly zero. BSNL or Jio might work in patches, but treat it as a complete digital detox.
Is it safe for solo female travelers?
Yes, Himachal is generally very safe, and the trail from Billing is frequented by trekkers and shepherds. However, since there is no network, it's always better to go with a group or a local guide for peace of mind.
Are there washrooms on the trek?
No washrooms on the 14km trail from Billing. You'll have to use nature. Campsites and homestays in Rajgundha have basic toilets.
Can we buy alcohol there?
No. There are no liquor shops in Rajgundha. If you want to drink, you need to carry it from Bir or Barot. Please don't litter your bottles.
Do I need a guide for the trek?
The trail from Billing is a well-marked jeep track (though jeeps rarely use it). You can easily do it without a guide, but hiring one helps support the local economy and ensures you don't take a wrong turn.
What kind of accommodation is available?
You will find basic homestays, zostel-like hostels (Zostel Rajgundha exists), and Swiss/dome tents. Do not expect luxury hotels.
