How to Reach

Madurai is incredibly well-connected. Flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore land directly at Madurai Airport (IXM), which is about 15 km from the city center (cab costs ₹500-₹700). From Bangalore or Chennai, overnight AC sleeper buses are the most popular and comfortable option for groups, taking 7-8 hours and costing around ₹800-₹1500 per person. Trains are also an excellent option; the Tejas Express from Chennai reaches Madurai in just 6.5 hours (approx ₹1200). The Madurai Junction railway station is right in the heart of the city.

What is the dress code for Meenakshi Temple?
Strict. Men must wear pants or dhotis (no shorts). Women must wear sarees, salwar kameez, or long skirts with tops that cover the shoulders. Leggings are not allowed.
Can I take my phone inside the temple?
No. Mobile phones, cameras, and smartwatches are strictly prohibited inside the Meenakshi Temple. You have to deposit them in lockers outside.
Is Madurai safe for all-girls groups?
Yes, it is generally very safe. However, it is a conservative city. Dressing modestly and avoiding isolated areas late at night is recommended.
