Madurai (IXM) is the nearest airport, about 3 hours away by road. Rameshwaram is well-connected by train from Chennai, Madurai, and Trichy, though check if the Pamban rail bridge is operational. Regular state buses and private AC sleepers run from major South Indian cities.

No, there is a strict ban on mobile phones and cameras inside the temple. Lockers are available outside, but the queues for them can be long. It's best to leave electronics at your hotel.

Is Dhanushkodi safe to visit?

Yes, during the day. However, you must leave the area by 5 PM as per Coast Guard regulations. You can drive your own vehicle up to the point, or take local buses/jeeps from the checkpoint.

Can I get non-veg or alcohol in Rameshwaram?

No. Rameshwaram is a holy city. It is strictly vegetarian and completely dry. You will have to go to mainland towns like Ramanathapuram for non-veg food or alcohol.

Is the Pamban Bridge open for trains?

The old bridge was closed, and a new bridge is currently under construction/testing. Always check current IRCTC status. The parallel road bridge is fully open for cars and bikes.

What is the dress code for the temple?

Men must wear dhotis or formal pants and must remove their shirts before entering the main sanctum. Women must wear sarees, half-sarees, or churidars with a dupatta. Jeans, shorts, and leggings are strictly prohibited.

Do I need a guide for the temple?

It's not mandatory, but if you want to do the 22 wells bath quickly and understand the history without getting lost in the massive corridors, a guide is worth the few hundred rupees.

Can we swim at the beaches in Rameshwaram?

Agni Theertham is meant for holy dips, not casual swimming (and the water isn't very clean). For recreational swimming and water sports, head to Ariyaman Beach or Sangumal Beach.
