The most convenient way is to take the Vande Bharat Express directly from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) railway station. Alternatively, fly into Jammu Airport (IXJ) and take a 1.5-hour prepaid taxi (approx INR 1500-2000) or a local bus to Katra.

Can we complete the Vaishno Devi trek in one day?

Yes, if you are reasonably fit, you can start early morning, do the darshan, and return to Katra by late night. It usually takes 12-15 hours round trip on foot.

How do I book the helicopter service?

Book ONLY through the official Shrine Board website (maavaishnodevi.org) exactly 60 days in advance at 10 AM. Do not trust travel agents claiming to have 'VIP helicopter quotas'.

Is the new battery car service worth it?

Absolutely, especially for the elderly. It runs from Adhkuwari to Bhawan (approx 7 km). However, you must book it online well in advance as spot bookings are nearly impossible.

Do I need a Yatra Parchi (slip) to start the trek?

Yes, but the paper parchi is now replaced by a mandatory RFID card. You can get it for free at the Katra Railway Station, Bus Stand, or Niharika complex. You cannot cross the Banganga checkpost without it.

Are mobile phones allowed inside the Bhawan?

No. Mobile phones, smartwatches, leather belts, and wallets are strictly prohibited. You have to deposit them in the free lockers at the Bhawan complex, which can take an hour just to queue up for.

Is it safe for solo female travelers or all-female groups?

Extremely safe. The trail is well-lit, heavily guarded by the CRPF and Shrine Board police, and bustling with families 24/7.

Should I take the old route or the new Tarakote Marg?

Take the old route while going up if you want to visit Adhkuwari. Take the new Tarakote Marg for the descent—it has no ponies, is cleaner, and is easier on the knees with better ramps.

How difficult is the Adhkuwari Cave (Garbh Joon)?

The cave is very narrow. You literally have to crawl on your stomach to get through. If you are claustrophobic or heavily built, skip the cave and just do darshan from outside. Waiting times here can exceed 12-24 hours.
