FAQs

Can we swim in Mulshi Dam?
Absolutely not. It is illegal and highly dangerous. The dam has unpredictable depths, strong undercurrents, and thick silt that has claimed many lives. Stick to the resort pools.
Is it safe to drive to Mulshi at night?
It's generally safe, but not recommended during the monsoon due to heavy fog, zero visibility, and broken roads. In winter, it's fine, but watch out for wildlife and lack of streetlights.
Will I get mobile network in Mulshi?
Jio and Airtel work decently until Pirangut or the main dam area. Once you venture deeper towards Tamhini Ghat or lakeside camps, expect zero bars. Download offline maps.
Where can I buy alcohol?
BYOB is the golden rule. There are very few wine shops near Pirangut, and they often overcharge or run out of good stock. Carry your own from Pune or Mumbai.
Are there leeches during the monsoon treks?
Yes, plenty of them. If you're doing Andharban or Devkund, wear full pants, carry salt or a lighter, and avoid standing still in damp areas.
Is Mulshi safe for couples?
Yes, very safe. Just avoid isolated spots late at night and stick to known resorts or organized campsites.
Do I need a 4x4 to reach the campsites?
Most commercial campsites are accessible by normal hatchbacks and sedans, though the last 1-2 kms might be a bumpy dirt track. You don't need a 4x4 unless you're going hardcore off-roading.
Can we pitch our own tent anywhere?
Technically no. Much of the land around the lake is private property or forest reserve. It's better and safer to pay a small fee to a local farmer or use a designated campsite.
