How to Reach

Drive or ride from Pune via Sinhagad Road towards Velhe village (approx 60 km). From Velhe, follow the signs to Chhatri Wadi base village. Alternatively, take an ST (State Transport) bus from Swargate, Pune to Velhe, and either walk or take a shared jeep to Chhatri Wadi.

Travel Tips
1Start your night trek by 1:00 AM to ensure you reach the summit comfortably before the 6:00 AM sunrise.
2Keep your backpack as light as possible. Every extra kilo feels like ten on the steep rock patches.
3Download offline maps for the Pune-Velhe route before you leave the city.
4Carry cash in smaller denominations (₹10, ₹20, ₹50) for parking, entry fees, and lemon water stalls on the trail.

FAQs

Is the night trek to Torna from Chhatri Wadi safe for beginners?
No, it's considered moderate-to-difficult. The rock patches in the dark can be intimidating. Beginners should strictly go with an organized trekking group or a local guide.
Where can I park my car or bike?
There are designated open dirt plots in Chhatri Wadi managed by locals. They charge around ₹50 for bikes and ₹100 for cars. It's safe.
Are there washrooms at the base village?
Yes, but they are very basic pay-and-use Indian-style toilets. Do not expect urban hygiene standards.
Can we camp at Torna Fort?
Yes, you can camp near the Mengai Devi temple at the summit. You must carry your own tents and sleeping bags as nothing is available on top.
Is there food available during the night trek?
No. Local stalls at the base and midway only open early in the morning (around 6 AM). Carry your own energy bars and plenty of water.
How long does the trek take from Chhatri Wadi?
It takes about 3 to 4 hours one way, depending on your fitness level and group size.
Will I get mobile network?
Assume you won't. Jio and Airtel completely die about 5km before Velhe. BSNL works sporadically at the top of the fort.
Are leeches a problem on this trek?
Only during the peak monsoon months of July and August. Wearing full pants and carrying salt helps.

Group Trips to Chhatri Wadi

If you are looking for the ultimate weekend adrenaline rush near Pune, booking a group trip to Chhatri Wadi is your gateway to the mighty Torna Fort. Known historically as Prachandagad, Torna is Maharashtra's highest fort and the first one captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Chhatri Wadi serves as the primary base village for this epic adventure. While you can technically go solo, joining an organized group tour—with packages starting from just ₹999—is the smartest move for the popular Torna night trek. Group trips ensure you have an experienced trek leader to navigate the tricky rock patches and steep inclines safely in the dark. Plus, there's nothing quite like the camaraderie of huffing and puffing up a mountain with like-minded travelers from Mumbai and Pune, only to be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise over the Sahyadri range. Most group itineraries handle the logistics perfectly: private transport from Pune Division, base village parking, forest entry, and a well-deserved, authentic Maharashtrian breakfast of Poha and chai when you descend back to Chhatri Wadi. Whether you are an adventure seeker chasing monsoon waterfalls or a history buff wanting to explore the Zunjar Machi, a guided group trek starting at Chhatri Wadi delivers an honest, rugged, and unforgettable outdoor experience without breaking the bank.
