How to Reach

Take an overnight Volvo bus from Delhi or Chandigarh heading towards Manali and get down at the Aut Tunnel (just before the tunnel). From Aut, take a local bus or hire a private taxi to Banjar, and then split towards either Jibhi or Tirthan Valley. The nearest airport is Bhuntar (60 km away), but flights are expensive and highly unreliable.

FAQs

Is it better to stay in Jibhi or Tirthan Valley?
Stay in Jibhi if you want aesthetic cafes, hostels, and a younger crowd. Choose Tirthan Valley if you want absolute peace, riverside homestays, and easy access to the Great Himalayan National Park.
Is the drive to Jalori Pass safe?
It is one of the steepest motorable passes in India. You need a powerful vehicle and an experienced hill driver. Avoid driving it yourself if you aren't used to steep, narrow mountain gradients.
Do I need a permit for the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP)?
Yes, permits are mandatory to enter the core zone. You can get them easily at the Forest Office in Sai Ropa (Tirthan Valley) for a nominal daily fee.
Will my Airtel or Vi SIM work?
Mostly no. Airtel and Vi have terrible coverage here. Jio works decently well, but BSNL is the absolute king in this region.
Are there good cafes in Tirthan Valley?
Tirthan is more about home-cooked food at homestays. If you are looking for the aesthetic cafe hopping experience, Jibhi is where you need to be.
Can we do the Serolsar Lake trek in winter?
Yes, but you will need proper snow boots and a local guide, as the trail gets completely buried in snow and can be tricky to navigate.
How many days are enough for this region?
A minimum of 4-5 days is required to properly cover Jibhi, drive up to Jalori Pass, hike to Serolsar Lake, and spend a day exploring Tirthan Valley/GHNP.
Is it safe for solo female travelers?
Extremely safe. The locals are respectful and helpful. However, avoid hiking alone late in the evening due to the presence of wildlife like bears and leopards.
