Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1Day 1: Delhi to Narkanda (420 km, 9-10 hrs) - Pickup from Delhi airport/railway station and drive via Chandigarh and Shimla to Narkanda. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2Day 2: Narkanda to Sangla (160 km, 7-8 hrs) - Follow the Sutlej river past Rampur Bushahr and Karcham into the Baspa valley. Overnight in Sangla.
Day 3Day 3: Chitkul excursion, then Kalpa (95 km) - See Chitkul, the last inhabited village on the Indo-Tibet road, then drive to Kalpa facing Kinner Kailash. Overnight Kalpa.
Day 4Day 4: Kalpa to Tabo via Nako Lake (200 km) - Cross Khab, stop at Nako Lake and village, and enter Spiti to reach ancient Tabo Monastery. Overnight in Tabo.
Day 5Day 5: Tabo - Dhankar Monastery - Kaza (120 km) - Clifftop Dhankar Monastery above the Spiti-Pin confluence, then on to Kaza, base for the next 3 nights.
Day 6Day 6: Kaza local sightseeing - Key Monastery, Kibber village and the dramatic Chicham Bridge over a deep gorge. Evening in Kaza market. Overnight Kaza.
Day 7Day 7: Langza, Hikkim and Komic - Fossils and the giant Buddha at Langza, a postcard from Hikkim's high-altitude post office and Komic village. Overnight Kaza.
Day 8Day 8: Kaza to Chandratal (120 km) - Drive via Losar over Kunzum Pass to the blue Chandratal Lake. Evening by the lake and overnight in camps.
Day 9Day 9: Chandratal to Manali (130 km) - Rugged drive via Batal and Chhatru, then through the Atal Tunnel (or Rohtang) down to Manali. Overnight in Manali.
Day 10Day 10: Manali to Delhi (530 km) - Breakfast and long drive back via Kullu and Mandi. Drop at Delhi airport/railway station by night. Trip ends.
