How to Reach
Bhuj is the gateway to Kutch. You can fly into Bhuj Airport (limited flights) or take a train to Bhuj Railway Station. The most popular route for groups is flying/training into Ahmedabad and taking an overnight bus or a scenic 6-7 hour road trip to Bhuj. From Bhuj, Dhordo (the edge of the Rann) is an 80 km drive on excellent roads.

Is the Rann Utsav Tent City worth the price?
Honestly, no. It's heavily commercialized and costs a bomb (upwards of INR 10k/night). You're much better off booking a traditional Bhunga (mud hut) in Hodka or Dhordo village for a fraction of the price. You get better local food and a more authentic vibe.
Can we drive our own car onto the salt flats?
No. Private vehicles must be parked at the designated parking area near the BSF checkpoint. From there, you have to walk, take a camel cart, or use the government electric buses to reach the actual white desert.
Do I really need a permit?
Yes, absolutely. The Rann is close to the Pakistan border. You need a permit which can be obtained online at rannpermit.com or offline at the Bhirandiyara checkpoint. Do it online to save an hour of standing in line.
What happens if we go in the summer or monsoon?
In summer (April-June), it's a 45-degree furnace and completely unbearable. In monsoon (July-Sept), the Arabian sea floods the marsh. It becomes a lake, so there is zero white salt to see.
Is it safe for a group of girls?
Extremely safe. Gujarat generally has high safety standards for women, and the heavy BSF/police presence around the Rann makes it very secure. Locals are respectful and helpful.
Can we find alcohol anywhere?
No. Gujarat is a dry state. While locals have their ways, as a tourist, do not risk it. Police checking on the Ahmedabad-Bhuj highway is strict, and getting caught means serious jail time.
Is the full moon really that different?
Yes. On a full moon night, the white salt reflects the moonlight, making the desert glow blueish-white. It's a surreal, once-in-a-lifetime sight. However, these dates are incredibly crowded, so book accommodation months in advance.
Can we fly a drone?
Strictly NO. It is a highly sensitive border area controlled by the BSF. Flying a drone will get it confiscated and you arrested.
