Can I carry alcohol from India duty-free?
Absolutely not. The Maldives is a strict Islamic nation. Any alcohol found in your luggage at Male airport will be confiscated. You can only drink at private resorts or on licensed safari boats.
What is the difference between a Resort Island and a Local Island?
Resort islands are private—one island, one resort. They are luxurious, allow alcohol, and you can wear whatever you want, but they are expensive. Local islands (like Maafushi) are where Maldivians live. They have cheap guesthouses, cafes, and strict rules (no alcohol, modest dress, specific bikini beaches).
Is vegetarian food easily available?
Yes! Because a huge percentage of resort chefs and staff are Indian, you'll easily find dal, paneer, and rotis at resorts. On local islands, it's a bit more limited to basic pastas, pizzas, and vegetable curries, but you definitely won't starve.
Are water villas worth the hype and money?
Yes, for the experience, but they are incredibly expensive. A smart hack for Indian travelers is 'split-stay': book a cheaper beach villa for 3 nights, and upgrade to a water villa for your last night to get the photos and experience without blowing your budget.
How much does the seaplane transfer cost?
