How to Reach

The best way to reach Panhal is by your own vehicle. From Pune, take the route towards Lavasa or Panshet, then diverge onto the village roads leading to Panhal. It is roughly a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from Pune. From Mumbai, take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, exit towards Chandni Chowk, and follow the Lavasa road. State transport (ST) buses are highly infrequent and not reliable for weekend trips.

FAQs

Can I take my hatchback (Swift/Baleno) to Panhal?
You can, but the last stretch of the road is rough and unpaved. During the monsoon, ground clearance becomes a real issue due to slush. If you love your car's underbelly, bring an SUV or be prepared to park at the base and walk.
Is there mobile network in Panhal?
Hardly. Jio and Airtel give up a few kilometers before you reach the core village. BSNL might give you a single bar if you stand on a specific rock. Download offline maps and inform your family before you lose network.
Is it safe for a girls' group trip?
Yes, the locals are simple and helpful. However, because it's isolated and lacks network connectivity, it's highly recommended to travel in a group, hire a local guide for the waterfall trek, and ensure you wrap up activities before sunset.
Are there washrooms near Lingya Ghat Waterfall?
Absolutely not. It's in the middle of nature. You will have to use the basic washrooms at the village homestays or dhabas before starting the trek.
Can we buy alcohol in Panhal?
No. There are no wine shops in the village. If you want to drink, you need to carry your own from Pune or Mumbai. Please do not litter glass bottles in the forest or near the waterfall.
Is camping allowed near the waterfall?
During the monsoon, camping near the waterfall is extremely dangerous due to flash floods. In winter and summer, you can pitch a tent in designated flat areas near the village, usually with permission from local landowners.
How long is the trek to Lingya Ghat Waterfall?
It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the base point, depending on your fitness level and the amount of monsoon slush on the trail.
Do we need a guide for the trek?
While the trail is somewhat marked by footfalls, in the monsoon the fog gets thick and trails get confusing. Paying a local INR 300-500 to guide you is worth it for safety and supports the village economy.
