How to Reach
Take an overnight Volvo bus from Delhi or Chandigarh to Manali. From Manali, the trek base camp at Jobra is a 1-hour drive (usually arranged by your trek operator). The nearest airport is Bhuntar (Kullu), 2 hours from Manali, but flights are expensive and unreliable due to weather.

Is Hampta Pass suitable for beginners?
Yes, but only if you are extremely fit. It's labeled 'moderate', but walking 5-8 hours a day at high altitude with steep inclines is no joke. Start running 5km a day a month before.
Do I need to take Diamox?
Consult your doctor, but many trekkers take a preventive half-dose of Diamox starting a day before the trek to help acclimatize. Hydration is equally important.
Is a visit to Chandratal Lake included?
Most trek operators include a drive to Chandratal on the last day from Chatru, but it is highly dependent on road conditions and weather. If the road is blocked, you won't go.
How cold does it get at night?
Even in peak summer (July/August), night temperatures at higher camps like Balu Ka Gera and Shea Goru drop to 0°C to -5°C. Layering is non-negotiable.
Can I do this trek solo without a guide?
Technically possible if you have your own gear and alpine experience, but highly discouraged for the average trekker due to tricky river crossings, unpredictable weather, and lack of network.
What kind of shoes do I need?
High-ankle trekking shoes with good grip and waterproofing (like Gore-Tex). Do not attempt this in sports shoes or sneakers; you will twist an ankle or freeze your toes.
Are there charging points on the trek?
Absolutely not. Bring a 10,000mAh or 20,000mAh power bank and keep it inside your sleeping bag at night so the cold doesn't drain the battery.
Is there mobile connectivity?
You will lose network shortly after leaving Manali (around Jobra). Expect zero connectivity for the next 4-5 days until you return via the Atal Tunnel.
