What to Expect

Expect loud music, bright lights, massive crowds, and non-stop entertainment. You will be spending most of your time walking through interconnected mega-malls, riding roller coasters, or trying your luck at the casino. The weather is pleasantly cool, a stark contrast to KL's humidity. It's a sensory overload in the best way possible, provided you know exactly what you're signing up for.

Honest Heads-Up
  • This is not a nature retreat. If you want quiet mountains, go to Cameron Highlands instead.
  • Everything is more expensive here. Expect a 30-40% markup on food and drinks compared to Kuala Lumpur.
  • The casino has a strict dress code. Men in shorts, sandals, or sleeveless shirts will be denied entry.
  • Outdoor rides at SkyWorlds will shut down immediately at the first sign of lightning or heavy rain.
  • Weekends and Malaysian public holidays are chaotic. The crowds can be overwhelming.

How to Reach

Fly into Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). From KL Sentral or Pudu Sentral, take a direct express bus to the Awana Bus Terminal (about 1 hour). From there, hop on the Awana Skyway cable car, which drops you directly into the SkyAvenue mall at the peak.

Travel Tips
1Do not take a taxi all the way to the peak. Take the bus to Awana and use the cable car—it's cheaper, faster, and offers the best views.
2Pay a little extra for the glass-bottom gondola on the Awana Skyway for great group photos.
3Bring a light jacket. The outdoor air is cool, but the indoor air conditioning is freezing.
4If you plan to gamble, set a strict budget before you enter. The casino is designed to make you lose track of time and money.
5Keep your passport on you at all times. You cannot enter the casino or some clubs without it.

Must try: Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Durian pastries and ice cream

Skip the standalone fancy restaurants if you're on a budget. Head to the 'Malaysian Food Street' or the SkyAvenue food court for authentic, relatively cheaper local meals.

FAQs

Is a day trip from KL to Genting enough?
Yes. Most people leave KL by 9 AM, hit the theme park, gamble a bit, and return by 8 PM. However, if your group wants to party or fully experience the nightlife and casino, stay for one night.
Is the casino entry free for Indians?
Yes, entry is free. However, you must be over 21, non-Muslim, and you absolutely must carry your original physical passport to enter.
How cold does it actually get?
It hovers between 15°C to 22°C year-round. You don't need heavy snow jackets, but a good hoodie, sweater, or light jacket is essential, especially since the indoor ACs are blasted on high.
Are there good Indian vegetarian food options?
Yes, but they are pricey. You'll find spots like Spice Garden and various Indian stalls in the Malaysian Food Street court. Expect to pay around ₹500-₹800 for a basic veg meal.
Is Genting SkyWorlds worth the ticket price?
If you're with a group of friends who love rides, absolutely. The production value is great. Just check the weather forecast first, as rain shuts down the best rides.
Can we rent a scooter in KL and ride up to Genting?
You can, but we honestly don't recommend it. The gradient is very steep, roads can get slick with rain/fog, and local buses drive aggressively fast. Take the bus and cable car instead.
How do we get around once we are at the top?
You walk. The entire peak is an interconnected maze of malls, hotels, and casinos. Wear comfortable walking shoes because you will easily clock 15,000 steps.
Can we drink alcohol freely?
Yes, alcohol is widely available in bars, clubs, and the casino. However, Malaysia has high sin taxes, and Genting adds a premium on top of that. Pre-drink if you're on a budget.

Group Trips to Genting Highlands

Planning a group trip to Genting Highlands offers Indian travelers the perfect mix of mountain chills and high-energy thrills. Located just an hour away from Kuala Lumpur, this famous hill station is essentially Malaysia's entertainment capital in the clouds. If you are looking for a quiet nature retreat, look elsewhere. But if your group wants massive theme parks, luxury shopping, vibrant nightlife, and world-class casinos, a Genting Highlands group tour is exactly what you need. Available from ₹59,999, our curated packages ensure you get the most out of your trip without the hassle of planning. The weather here is a refreshing break from the tropical heat of mainland Malaysia, hovering around 15 to 22 degrees Celsius year-round. This makes it a fantastic year-round destination, though we recommend visiting between March and August to avoid the heavy monsoon rains that can temporarily shut down outdoor rides at the famous Genting SkyWorlds Theme Park. When traveling with friends, taking the Awana Skyway glass-bottom cable car is an absolute must-do experience, offering panoramic views of the lush Pahang rainforest. Inside the resort complex, you will find endless entertainment at the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park and the sprawling Casino De Genting. While food and drinks are slightly more expensive than in Kuala Lumpur, our local guides know exactly where to find the best budget-friendly Indian vegetarian meals and local Malaysian street food. Whether you are celebrating a bachelor party, a friends reunion, or just a quick weekend getaway from KL, Genting Highlands promises an unforgettable, action-packed adventure.
