How to Reach

The most common way is to fly or take a train to Bhuj. From Bhuj, rent a car or hire a taxi. You can take the newly built 'Road to Heaven' via Khavda (approx 130 km, highly scenic) or the older route via Rapar (approx 220 km).

FAQs

Is it worth the long drive from Bhuj?
Absolutely. Especially now with the newly opened 'Road to Heaven' highway. The drive itself is a bucket-list experience, and the site is a marvel if you appreciate history.
Do I really need a guide?
Yes. Without a guide, Dholavira is just a massive field of low stone walls. A guide will explain the water reservoirs, the stadium, the citadel, and the ancient signboard, bringing the city to life.
Are there places to eat in Dholavira?
Very few. The GTDC Toran Resort is the most reliable place for a clean, decent Kutchi thali. Otherwise, there are just a couple of basic dhabas. Carry your own snacks and plenty of water.
Can we see the White Rann from Dholavira?
Yes. Dholavira is on Khadir Bet, an island in the Rann. You can see the salt flats right from the edges of the island, and the drive in takes you right through it.
How much time is needed to see the site?
You need about 2 to 3 hours to comfortably walk through the archaeological site, plus another 30-45 minutes for the ASI museum.
Which mobile network works there?
Jio has the best coverage in the area, followed by BSNL. Airtel and VI users will likely be out of coverage for most of the trip.
Can we stay overnight in Dholavira?
Yes, there are a few options. GTDC Toran Resort is the best standard option, and there are several local homestays and eco-resorts popping up in the village.
Is there an entry fee?
There is a nominal entry fee for the archaeological site and a separate small fee for the museum. Guides charge anywhere from INR 300 to 500 depending on the group size.
